Before and Afters

We hand select garments that have potential. They are made with a great fabric, they have cool buttons, it has a cute pattern...but there's something just "OFF" about it. We work with seamstresses to create one of a kind new creations like the one below:

Shorter is definitely better, when it comes to this dress.

Our Mission

philanthropic capitalism. An entire business model that inspires. We buy garments from Goodwill, an organization that gives back to the communities in America and then give them a new life for people with a unique design sense. For every garment purchased from Alter clothing, we donate a portion of proceed to a female sewing or tailoring entrepreneur in S. America, Africa or SE Asia.

Women are still not given the education and opportunities to succeed in life in other countries. They are still struggling to support families and to create sustainable businesses in their craft.

Participating entrepreneurs like Lydia from Guatemala (47 years old, 4 kids/married) will be able to build their businesses with Alter customers help. philanthropic capitalism. We're like Toms, but for the rest of the body.

Saving the World from Mass Production

One dress at a time! It all started with an out of date, too big, too frumpy, too dated unwanted moo moo hidden within the racks of millions of clothes discarded by Americans who keep buying the latest/greatest/cheapest thing mass manufactured at big box stores. Who will wear these dresses again? Will they just sit there, while poorly made/cheap clothing is busily worked upon in sweatshops somewhere in a small chinese town? Alter clothing is bringing a new life back to forgotten threads.

We've scoured the racks of hundreds of thrift stores, yard sales and even our grandmas closet? for hidden gems that have been re-made to capture the uniqueness of each of our customers. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and made with love.

The before is a frumpy dress that not even your budget minded cross dressing BFF would wear:

We've shortened it, taken in the seems and given it a modern yet vintag-y feel. You can feel great about having style, yet saving the planet with your fashion choices.
